Rehabilitation Mini-Hydro power plant Ifwanzondo (200kW)

Rehabilitation Mini-Hydro power plant Ifwanzondo (200kW), Democratic Republic of Congo

KfW  2012 - 2012

The off-grid Micro Hydro Power (MHP) plant at Ifwanzondo in Bandundu province, DR Congo, was built in 1983 with an installed capacity of 108 kW. Being in operation for three decades, the MHP required a major overhaul. An initial site visit conducted by GFA Entec in 2010 showed that the plant could not only be refurbished but with some technical improvement it was possible to almost double the installed capacity to 200kW. To obtain the required project financing from KfW, GFA Entec was commissioned to prepare a bankable feasibility study and, based on the results, to prepare a detailed design and tender documents for construction of a new MHP.
